bee on a daisey

We have had a hot but wet summer so far this year.
We have been blessed by this weather because we have seen a lot of the turf that was damaged by “winterkill” come back.

NEWSLETTER CHANGES:  We wanted to let you know about some changes in the newsletter. We will only be mailing newsletters out quarterly now.  We will continue to post a monthly newsletter on our website which you can sign up for, if you have not done so already, by going to Green Dreams Landscaping.  Our quarterly newsletter may no longer come with the billing but may be mailed separately.  If you would like to continue to receive our written newsletter please let us know in the office ( or by calling 910-944-9412 and talking to either Kiersten or Brenda, they can also update your information at that time.

BILLING AND LATE CHARGES:  I just wanted to remind everyone that we bill on the 15th of each month for the current month that we are working in.  Your invoices are typically due no later than the 10th of the following month (i.e.: if we bill you July 15th your bill is due August 10th).  We offer a $5.00 discount if you either sign up for automatic payment (which will be drafted out before the 25th of each month), or if you pay prior to the 1st of the month.  If you are paying prior to the 1st of the month please make sure that you mail your check by the first of the month.  If it is postmarked on the 2nd etc. you are not eligible for that discount.  If your payment is due on the 10th, please make sure that we receive your payment on time. Due to the excessive number of people that are paying late, we are being forced to apply late charges to everyone. Lewis and I are not equipped to handle $13,000.00 worth of overdue invoices in a month. Please help us to help you in a timely manner. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PART IN THIS!

MOLES☺ Why am I smiling when I talk about these little creatures that destroy our turf? Because NC has finally approved some products that will allow us to eradicate them! Finally we can get rid of them rather than sending them to your neighbor’s yard! The golf courses should no longer be sending them to your yard either! Now you understand the happiness I hope! Here is some more information about it if you would like:

HOLIDAYS: Since this is the newsletter for the quarter, I want to let you know that our office will be closed for Labor Day. Labor Day this year falls on Sept.7, 2015. We will service your account that week starting on Tuesday.

OFFICE HOURS: Office hours are Monday-Thurs from 8-4 and Friday from 8-12. We are closed on Saturdays and Sundays. In the event of an emergency you can reach us after hours at 910-695-5951. Calling this number will result in an after-hours service charge. Please call the office with requests rather than texting so that the proper person can be notified. I am only human and sometimes forget things that have been texted to me and then people get upset.

WEEDS: Did you know that when you pull weeds you risk doubling them? If you do not pull all of the roots that is exactly what you are doing. When you pull a weed and it splits you have now doubled the number of roots that are going to grow. It is for this reason that we pull weeds that are larger than our hands and we spray anything that is smaller.

TURF FERTILIZATION AND POST EMERGENT: If you are a chemical customer and or you receive chemicals as part of your maintenance contract: We will begin the mid-summer application of turf fertilization next week. Chemical customers will receive a bill every month regardless if you have anything done or not. We average the costs of your chemicals over a year. Remember that when you sign a contract you are agreeing to a one year contract and that if you cancel you will still have to pay 100% of the balance that is left owed for that agreement, unless other arrangements have been made with Dana.

WATERING: During this summer heat how often should you water your turf? If you have established turf you should be watering 1″ per week according to NC State and the Moore County AG Center. Due to our sandy soil here our water evaporates more quickly than it does in the northern part of the county where there is more clay in the soil. My answer to everyone is this, I would rather see you water for 3 days a week for 30-45 minutes than I would for you to water every day for 15-20 minutes. Now of course this all depends on the type of watering system that you are using and what type of irrigation heads you have in that area. In most cases when we have a drought and peoples turf goes brown it is due to lack of watering and that is because the roots have not been forced to search for water. The deep watering creates a deeper root system. For more information on this you can read more about effective watering at:

CONTAINERS: Did you know that we sell containers and fountains? We have a gorgeous array of flower pots for sale. You can come to the office and look at what we have for sale anytime that you want. If you purchase them in a set you receive a 20% discount. They are handmade, glazed Vietnamese containers that are weatherproof. This means that you can leave them outdoor all winter long!!! We can even plant them for you☺

SCOUT GUIDE: Once again we were lucky enough to be part of the Scout Guide this year. It is currently in publication and will be available for pickup in August or September. Please follow this wonderful publication for local shopping. If you want a copy of this let us know and we will save you a copy!

SOCIAL MEDIA CENTRAL: Want to know what all is going on with us and see all of our pictures? Green Dreams Social Media Central page
